Brain Imaging: Mapping an Imploded Universe

The brain is an imploded universe in itself: 86 billion neurons with 1000 trillion connections that constantly rearrange and adapt. Mapping the functional activity of the brain is quite a challenge but the means to do so are improving at a dramatic pace, making this the most interesting time in history to be a cognitive neuroscientist.    I will give an overview of the tools at our disposal to explore the brain and mind and sketch out the abilities we will have in brain imaging in the near future.

Jonas Vibell is a brain imager with an interest in the function of our brains. He did his PhD at University of Oxford, was a research fellow between University of London and Harvard, and developed future technologies for Archinoetics, LLC. He is currently a Professor of Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience and runs the Brain & Behavior Laboratory at UH Manoa.
