The deep ocean trenches are one of the most inaccessible and poorly studied regions on the planet, reachng a depths of up to 11km (35,000 ft). Practically nothing is known about the circulation, mixing, chemical properties, and biological communities that are within the deepest 45% of the ocean's depth range.
We have obtained funding to develop a profile that will, for the first time, enable high-quality multidisciplinary observations.
Dr. Glenn Carter is an Associate Professor of Oceanography at University of Hawaii at Manoa. He earned his PhD from the University of Washington.
His research include turbulent mixing processes in the deep ocean.
