The number of species on planet Earth that remain unknown to science greatly exceeds the number that have so far been discovered, and vast numbers of species are on the verge of extinction. Dr Pyle will describe why and how taxonomists are rushing to classify them before they disappear - particularly those in the deep coral reef habitats he specializes in.

Dr Pyle is a graduate of Punahou School and University of Hawaii and has worked with the fish collection at Bishop Museum for 30 years,
