Dr Amanda Lowrey

Hawaii Department of Health

"The Science of Food Safety"

 

Dr Lowrey received her doctorate in molecular biology at Northwestern University.

For the last seven years she has worked at the Sanitation Branch at the Hawaii Department of Health: she previously worked as a microbiologist for the Aquaculture Development Program with the Department of Agriculture.

She will talk about recent outbreaks, the game-changing restaurant placarding system, and how to feel confident eating out. She will also talk about modern shellfish farming in ancient Hawaiian fishponds and how it relates to public health.
