Assistant Astronomer, UH Insitiute for Astronomy
Dr. Andrew Howard will describe the hunt for planets orbiting other stars and the quest for another Earth. In the past two decades more than 3,000 exoplanets have been discovered. Many of these planets look nothing like the planets of our Solar System -- strange orbits, unusual compositions, and unknown beginnings. We will tour this diverse landscape of exoplanets, including the recent discoveries of planets the size of Earth
Andrew has degrees from MIT and Harvard.
In the last few weeks he won the prestigious Cozzarelli Prize from the National Academy of Sciences, as well as the University of Hawaii Regents' Medal for his research.
