Internet Threats: Viruses, Privacy, Shutdowns and Malicious AI

It is common knowledge that we live and work in a world under constant threat of cyber attack. In this talk I will survey the cyber threat landscape and demystify the terminology so that you can better assess your own risk and protect yourself. I begin with a history of cyber security, review recent attacks and assess the current cyber threats and available defenses. Finally, I will discuss the impact of advancing technology on cybersecurity.

Curt Dodds is the IT Manager at the Institute for Astronomy at UH Manoa. Curt started his tech career untraditionally, with a degree in Philosophy from Westmont College. He earned his MS in Software Engineering at Cal State Fullerton.
